Our project was born in Atri, in what was the ancient Piceno territory of Hadria, rich in clay. Hadrianai was born from the desire to produce – in a completely handmade way and without the use of molds – the ancient amphorae that were used in the times of the ancient Romans to preserve and age the finest wines, which were often transported throughout the Roman territory to reach on the tables of the nobles.
The Hadrianai Project intends to recover the whole process of making amphorae as it was in antiquity, starting therefore from the search for the raw material – local clay – to the involvement of the workers of the nearby city of Castelli. For this reason, since 2018 we have been working on a research and recovery project of the typical clays of our territory, and we are reaching the level of purity most suitable for the realization of our hadrianai, experimenting it in the hope of soon being able to use our native clay, thus recreating the entire chain of amphorae as it was in the Roman period.
