HADRIANUM Srl was born from the desire to promote projects for the recovery and innovation of activities and traditions of the ancient Ager Hadrianus, a unique area rich in history, culture and knowledge. This territory, known as Hadria, extended from the foot of Monte Camicia to the shores of the Adriatic Sea, and had been minting its own currency since before the advent of Roman hegemony.

The mission of the HADRIANUM Srl team is to rediscover, preserve and renew the different natural, artisanal and cultural riches of the territory of Hadria to make them known and appreciated all over the world, as it already happened in the past when the name of Hadria was also known overseas for the very high quality of its agricultural and handcrafted products and for the natural and artistic riches that it preserved. Hadrianai makes clay amphorae for wine entirely by hand, without molds, using the ancient technique called “colombino” as in the most ancient Roman tradition, which used clay amphorae to age and transport its best wines. Our master craftsmen from Castelli model and then superimpose clay cylinders called “colombini” or even “lucignoli”, which are compressed one on top of the other so as to adhere layer by layer.

After days of patient craftsmanship, our hadrianai takes its final shape. Subsequently, the amphora is left to dry for a period that varies according to the size and obviously the climatic conditions. The last stage of processing is cooking, and it is also one of the most delicate. The dried amphorae are finally placed in the cooking chamber of the oven at a temperature of around 1000 degrees, a process that gives the hadrianai their typical reddish color.
